Sometimes there are those special moments in skateboarding that people just can’t stop talking about. The release of Girl and Chocolate’s video, Pretty Sweet, has been exactly that. Sure it came out last year, but the shock and awe of it all is still top of mind for many. We caught up with Girl Pro Brandon Biebel this month to get the inside scoop. Check out this exclusive interview of what he had to say as well as a few unseen photos from our latest magalog cover shot by CCS pro Arto Saari. 

What was the most memorable part of the video for you?

The day we filmed the intro. We didn’t really know what was going on and they asked us all to meet up at this schoolyard at six in the morning. We did the whole thing as one continuous take where they filmed it all with a helicopter and choreographed the whole thing. It was really cool to be there for that. It was try after try after try, but once it got nailed and the confetti cannons went off it was really cool. It fluttered confetti for a good five minutes straight. When I looked up in the sky it was amazing. There was tons of confetti and all our friends were around. It was a pretty memorable moment.

Who had the best part in your opinion?

The best part for me goes out to Guy Mariano. I knew he was going to have a great part, but when I saw it all edited up and finished I really loved it. I watched it over and over again.

How did you feel about your part?

I was stoked. I was honored to share a part with Jeron Wilson. He’s like my big brother. I’ve looked up to him my whole life skating so to share a part with him was super cool for me. I was really happy with how it turned out.

Is there anything you wanted to get but didn’t?

Yeah, there was a bunch of stuff. We’d go on trips and sometimes things wouldn’t work out and we’d go back and try it again. A lot of stuff slipped away. But I think that goes for everyone. You always want to get more, but that’s what’s good about skating. It never stops. There’s always stuff you can go back and get.

Did you guys get to see the video before the premiere?

I actually didn’t see any of my footage or anyone else’s footage beforehand. I was clueless. I knew a lot of the tricks that people did and I was there to witness a lot of them, but as far as the footage went I didn’t see any of the edits, intros or anything. So when I went to the premiere I was really excited and it was cool to watch the whole thing from front to back. Overall it’s an awesome video and everyone affiliated did a great job.

Who’s your favorite Trunk Boy?

That’s a tough one. The Trunk Boyz are unreal. Those guys are so sick. All five of them—Elijah, Vincent, Stevie, Corey and Raven. I got to go on a lot of trips with those guys and they’re all my favorite, but if I had to pick one I would say Vincent Alvarez. I’ve known him the longest out of all the Trunk Boyz and he’s the MVP at every skate spot.

Who came up with the name, Trunk Boyz?

I think they were on a trip to Nicaragua and Rick McCrank made it up. They’re always hanging out together and they’re always hanging out in the back panel of the van on tour. They just started calling them the Trunk Boyz and I think it just clicked. I love rolling with the Trunk Boyz.

A lot of the footage from the video was from China. What’s it like skating over there?

China is one of the best places to skate. It has unlimited spots and you don’t get kicked out. A lot of it is completely untouched too and everything is smooth and mostly marble. It’s great. It’s like heaven for street skating.

What was it like working with Jack Black?

That guy is just the funniest dude. There was never a dull moment. He was so funny and cool. We were laughing the whole time. He’s a great guy and it was a huge honor to be able to work with him.
